This is my friend Jasher, 11 years old. He stops by every day to visit me and chat for a bit. He’s a smart kid and hopes to become a doctor one day to help people that are sick! He loves to listen to house music on my iPod and play games. It has been great to get to know him over the past weeks and it will be sad to say goodbye to him. - 5 photos

Rwanda Refugees Kakuma zone 2

Today gave me hope that humans can overcome true heart ship. I had the honor to meet a truly amazing family from Rwanda who had to flee their country due to political persecution. 4 brothers and sisters - there parents killed in the Rwanda genocide. They allowed me into their house in the refugee camp and where unbelievably generous with the little they had. It was also the first time meeting people here at the Kakuma refugee camp that where thankful for being here, being safe(r) and having enough to survive. They took me in, washed my shoes, fed me, massaged my injured back and shared their story! I am deeply moved and happy to have met them!

Film Aid International - Kakuma Refugee Camp

Yesterday I had the chance to work with Decha, a young director from Somalia who came to the Kakuma camp as a refugee 2 years ago. She is telling the story of her friend Mkwuja who got drugged and rapped by her brother in-law, because her husbands inability to have children, shamed the family. She is funded by Film Aid International, a humanitarian organization that uses the power of film to reach the world’s most vulnerable communities with messages that inspire them, address their critical shared needs, and effect social change.
